We have now entered into the second phase of our project, which explores stitch techniques including hand embroidery and applique. To kick this off, we brought over 300 school children from Merton schools to the Victoria & Albert Museum, to view key works by William Morris and iconic artefacts such as the Ardabil Carpet, which had a profound influence on Morris's work and which he advised the V&A to purchase well over 100 years ago.
We are also delighted to announce the following free open workshops taking place this month:
- Black History Month Tapestry Weaving Workshop: taking place at Merton Abbey Mills as part of the Unity Festival on Sunday 25 October
- Hand Embroidery and Applique Workshop: taking place as part of Merton's Family Learning Festival at Pollards Hill Library, Monday 26 October.
For further details of these workshops and how to join them, please go to our Programme pages and select Open Workshops. Hope to see you there!
