Volunteer Training

Eco-dyeing Preparation

As part of our professional development programme, we will recruit up to 30 volunteers and teach them skills and techniques in dyeing, stitch and printing. In particuar, we will teach them techniques which have been devised by our Lead Artists in repsonse to the traditional processes created in Merton from the 17th century onwards.

Once they have been trained in these techniques, volunteers will have the opportunity to lead or co-lead workshops to community groups based in Merton, passing on the skills they have learned and ensuring that the knowledge stays within the local area.  Volunteers will also have the opportunity to assist in delivering other aspects of the project such as the celebratory exhibition and publication in 2010.

We have already held a very successful volunteer training session in eco-dyeing techniques and will be running sessions exploring stitch and print in the near future. If you are interested in volunteering, please email arts@merton.gov.uk for further information.
