River & Cloth delivers a creative programme of workshops and practical activities in dyeing, stitch and printing techniques responding to the history of textile production in Merton.
We are currently in the Stitch phase of River & Cloth, which takes one of William Morris’ earliest wall-paper designs as it starting point: The Trellis. The trellis is thought to have been inspired by the garden trellises in Morris' garden at Red House, in Bexley Heath.
Throughout our workshops with schools and community groups, we will create a fun and innovative three dimensional interpretation of the trellis, using a variety of hand embroidery and applique techniques.
